The officers of the society believe it is very much in the interests of both the field of medieval military history and all producing scholars in that field to support De Re Militari and to keep the Journal of Medieval Military History alive and well.
As a society, we offer free of charge this present website, which is one of the principal and most useful academic websites available to students, scholars, and anyone interested in martial affairs in the Middle Ages. Here, we host many primary sources, articles, book reviews, and other resources for the study of warfare, military technology, and related topics from the fall of Rome to the early seventeenth century.
In addition, our Journal of Medieval Military History is the major outlet for original articles on all aspects of medieval military history, written not only by well-established authors but also by emerging scholars and early-career professionals. No other publication is dedicated entirely to the subfield of medieval warfare. The works that have appeared in the JMMH range chronologically from the early Middle Ages to its closing centuries and geographically include Britain, Western and Eastern Europe, the Near East, North Africa, and Central Asia. The JMMH also boasts a comparatively rapid turn-around time on submitted essays.
We encourage scholars in our field to take out a membership in De Re Militari, keep it current, attend our business meetings at the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University each May, and/or ask their libraries to purchase the JMMH. Doing so will help keep both the society and the journal strong and healthy into the future.
